One off - an event

Time Required

18th June to 24th June 2021

Our Schedule:

Day 1:

6:45 am meet at the Parley base (440 Sheridan St, Cairns), travel to Cape Bedford including several sightseeing stops on the way
3:00 pm arrive at Elim Beach campground and set up camp for the following days

Day 2-6:

8:00 am - 4:00 pm travel to the cleanup site and collect what has washed up since our last events there, stopping for tea and lunch breaks. During the week we will also explore the coloured sand dunes of Elim Beach.

Day 7:

8:00 am wave good-bye to Elim Beach campground, travel back to Cairns including scenic stops on the way.
6:00 pm home sweet home (Cairns)

What to expect:

Elim Beach is a remote campground with unpowered sites, drinking water and cold showers (not freezing). The access road mostly sealed up to the last 500 sandy metres. Mobile reception is limited (1-2 bar if you stand in the correct spot). We will bring a generator that you can use to charge your devices at limited times of the day. We will prepare basic vegetarian camping meals together and ask our volunteers to help with the camp chores (food preparation, dishes etc.). You are welcome to add your own flair to the event by sharing your own skills and interests: play music, hold a yoga class, run a workshop etc.

Travel, camping and food costs are covered by Parley for the number of spots available.
The event will adhere to current Covid-19 regulations. Please do not attend if you feel unwell.

What to bring:

Bring your own tent if you have one or let us know if you need to borrow one. Most Parley tents sleep 2 people. Hence, if you borrow a tent from Parley you might have to share it with another volunteer. Bring a mattress, sleeping bag, torch, closed shoes, swimmers, your Parley shirt if you have one, a reusable drink bottle, a small backpack for the day trips and clothing for cool nights and hot sunny days. Feel free to bring musical instruments or games for our campfire nights.
What to do to come along:

Cape Bedford needs everyone's help. We would like to ensure that all our seats in the cars are filled with volunteers. Therefore, please only sign up if you are certain that you will attend and let us know ASAP if you have booked a seat but cannot come along anymore so that we can give your seat to another volunteer.

We will contact you several times before the event to finetune logistics. If we repeatedly cannot contact you or don't hear back from you, we reserve the right to assume that you are not interested anymore and might give your spot to another volunteer.
If you have your own transport (regular car sufficient), you can also join us for only part of the event. Please contact us via this email to make arrangements.

See you on the beach!
