Meet Malcolm, a dedicated volunteer at the Time2Drive Learner Driver Mentor Program for over 2 years. Time2 Drive is one of the many programs run by National Joblink. ( Time2Drive (time2drivecairns.com.au)
Malcolm has devoted over four decades to various volunteering endeavours, spanning organisations such as Rotary and Lions Club. However, it was the invitation to join Time2Drive that gave him a new sense of purpose and he considers it a privilege to be part of this program.
“What resonates most deeply with me in this role is the opportunity to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds.”
Malcolm considers that each interaction, whether with a learner or a seasoned volunteer, enriches his experience and reinforces the value of community engagement.
Malcolm has also contributed significantly to the creation of valuable resources, prominently the comprehensive Volunteer Handbook, which Time2Drive generously provides to volunteers as well as practical time with an accredited driving instructor. He is very proud of an initiative he helped to create: ”The Giving Project: Give Back, Give Time, Give Now”
“Equipped with these tools, I am better equipped to provide the guidance and support necessary for learners to navigate their journey safely and confidently.”
Malcolm would like to offer this advice to those who are considering embarking on their own volunteering journey:
“Take the time to explore different organisations, aligning your values with their mission. Reach out, inquire, and don’t underestimate the power of playing to your strengths. And remember, it’s perfectly acceptable to explore multiple opportunities until you discover where your passion truly lies.”
The rewards of making a tangible difference in other’s lives and enriching our community are well worth it.
