VEXPO 2019

On a day which started out very overcast and threatening to rain, this year’s VExpo was once again a great success for the volunteer community organisations that participated. A wonderful day was had by all. We managed to get quite a steady flow through the Tank even though the sky was gloomy.

The crowds were slow to start but did show up as the rain threat eased and the Sunday TANKS Market got going.

24 Organisations participated in the Volunteer Expo at the TANKS on the Sunday 28th Featured were social, cultural, artistic, recreational and sporting not-for-profit groups. Groups included Orange Sky, Lions, TAFE, Community Foods, Meals on Wheels, Senior Citizens, CARMA, Cancer Council, Cairns Little Theatre, Cairns Libraries, Tropical Arts, Days for Girls, Maxima, Centacare, COUCH, Red Cross, Zonta, Story Dogs, ACSAH, Digital Inclusions, Great Pyramid Race, FNQVI, Kuranda Envirocare and Pyjama Angels

It was a community event showcasing a range of Volunteer opportunities available for Cairns people of all abilities and ages to join groups and build social connection around common interests.

Activities available on the day included weaving, kids activities, music, display of reptiles from the Dome and face painter.

The bubble machine proved a hit for the kids and many people were able to taste the awesome biscuits supplied by Cairns Meals on Wheels.

The winner of the most impressive and relevant display on the day was Orange Sky promoting their organisation.

Organisations utilised the work of 156 volunteers to create the space for the day and 111 volunteers were involved on the day.

280 potential volunteers were attracted by organisations at the event.

All organisations were happy with their ability to canvas volunteers for their prospective organisations.

Feedback was that the TANKS is a good venue and it is a great opportunity to network between organisations.

Comments post Event:

“Always one of my favourite expos to attend. You guys are awesome.”

“Ladies and Gentlemen this is one very well organised event we are proud to be part of. Just wonderful to see the diversity of volunteering in our community.”

“Thank YOU! Well organised and smooth execution of the event Yvonne!”

“What a great event as usual, we have more interest than in previous years J; I emailed yesterday 23 people that wanted more information from us. And mostly what a good way to chat with the community of the good work everyone does besides the networking and the biscuits.”

“As for the VExpo! Best one yet. The flow was slow and steady and the crowd buzz was constant.”

“Thank you so much for yesterday, the VExpo was awesome.”
