Meeting Opened 10.00am

Information was shared by all participants regarding organisations they represented:

  • OZ Harvest conducting orientation for volunteer on the coming Saturday
  • Couch laid the slab for the new Wellbeing Centre
  • St Margaret’s Church conducting community outreach program for parents and children
  • Zonta conducting Share the Dignity August Sanitary Drive amongst their other projects
  • Community Foods new volunteers engaged as a result VEXpo
  • Pyjama Foundation volunteers engaged with children in Foster Care
  • FNQ wildlife Rescue very busy bird breeding season
  • Jana from Oz harvest shared information re Computer Program called Sign Up Genius to manage volunteers – particularly with rosters. Working well for OZ Harvest. There is a small fee per month
  • Discussion re retention of volunteers. Importance of motivating volunteers – How to? Dependent on individual organisations.

Ideas for future Proposed to hold Volunteer Expo July 2019

  • To hold pop up VExpo stalls at various events in FNQ- including Mossman, Tablelands, prior to the Volunteer Expo 2019.
  • Lead up to 2019 – Collect individual stories from volunteers each organisation. Share those stories via media prior to the event as a way of promoting the event.

Future training

  • Organisations to think and feedback to FNQVI ideas for future training opportunities that will be of benefit to their organisation.
  • Interest in Volunteer Management Cert IV raised by Mihi would be great if this can be delivered in Cairns by Volunteering Queensland. Annette to follow up.
