Fostering Connections and Creating Opportunities
The FNQ Volunteers Expo held at the iconic TANKS on Sunday, July 30th, was a resounding success, with many community organisations, including FNQ Volunteers Inc. (FNQVI), coming together to showcase the diverse range of volunteering opportunities available in the Cairns community. It was a golden opportunity for local groups to shine, sharing their impactful work. From social initiatives to cultural endeavours, environmental conservation, and animal welfare, these groups are the backbone of our community.
And VEXPO is more than just an even. It’s a celebration of our community’s spirit. People of all abilities and ages came together to explore a diverse range of interests and forge new connections. Whether they were passionate about social causes, arts and culture, the environment, or furry friends, VEXPO had something for everyone.
The Amazing Organisations doing Meaningful Work
Featured prominently were not-for-profit groups representing various sectors, from social and cultural to artistic, recreational, and environmental organisations. Check out who was there!
One of the highlights of the day was the awesome variety of activities available. Attendees were treated to engaging dance classes by Cairns Latin Dance Club, kids’ activities, captivating music performances from CARMA Multicultural groups, culturally rich dance performances, a mesmerizing Cultural Didgeridoo performance by Cultural Conversations. We even had a talented face painter and the ever-popular bubble machine brought smiles to attendees of all ages, adding a touch of playful charm to the event.
So much to Experience
VEXPO shares the stage with the beloved monthly Tanks market, and visitors to VEXPO had the opportunity to:
- discover and connect with volunteer-based community organisations.
- find exciting opportunities to become a volunteer or member.
- learn about the incredible projects shaping our community.
- enjoy captivating live performances, dance classes, and cultural showcases.
A photo display, aptly titled “Putting the Spotlight on Volunteers,” drew attention to the invaluable contributions of volunteers, with due credit given to the Cairns Regional Council for their support.
Connections in Community
The feedback from participating organisations was overwhelmingly positive. They expressed satisfaction with their ability to connect with potential volunteers for their respective causes. Many praised the choice of venue, the TANKS, and highlighted the event’s excellent networking opportunities between organisations.
Here’s a glimpse of what some participants had to say:
“A great day and everything went smoothly.” “We had a heap of interest from individuals looking to volunteer with our organisation.” “Thanks for having us at VEXPO, we had a great time.”
Everyone came prepared to engage, participate, and have enlightening conversations with representatives from various community groups. It was their chance to explore, learn, and decide where they wanted to make a difference.
We all came together a truly inclusive, heartwarming, and delightful event, a vibrant celebration of community spirit and a testament to the enduring impact of volunteering in Cairns. We joined in celebrating the diverse tapestry of clubs, groups, and not-for-profit organisations that made our community so special.
FNQ Volunteers Inc. looks forward to fostering even stronger connections in the years to come. Stay tuned for VEXPO 2024!
