Extract from “Volunteering could be key to landing top jobs for FNQ youth” the Cairns Post 27 May 2016.
“Pellista Lammon of Volunteers FNQ Inc said more Far North teens were now volunteering in areas they enjoyed.

“It’s a way of connecting young people with their community and of course is a way of getting a foot in the door,” she said.

“A lot of people who leave school don’t know what they want to do, but volunteering is a very good way of finding out the areas they enjoy. We’ve definitely seen a growth in this area from a local perspective.”

26 MAY – Far North Queensland Volunteers Inc today participated in  the Careers Expo 2016 at Fred Moule Pavillion at the Cairns Showground.

FNQVI was fortunate thanks to community connections to be able to secure a good sight for a stall. The staff encouraged students and other attendees to think about VOLUNTEERING for community participation and to assist others.

The other important aspect was targeted for students to think how volunteering might help them decide what pathway they might like to choose for their own careers and how VOLUNTEERING could help decide that.

The Cairns Post interviewed staff member Pellista enquiring about what FNQ Volunteers does to help the youth of Cairns given the amount of unemployment in the region.

A very good size crowd of students attended and much interest was expressed at the FNQVI display.
