International Volunteers Day 2017

Presenters were: Oni, Cathy & Loani from FNQ Volunteers Inc. and Javier from Australian Red Cross Wellbeing Centre Cairns.

The audience consisted of students from various cultural backgrounds learning English, plus Teacher Margaret Parker and her volunteer assistant.

Oni spoke first giving a brief over view of FNQ Volunteer’s location and what FNQ Volunteers’ function is. Oni asked around everyone in the class what they thought volunteering was and what the gains were. There was a great response by everyone with that and it  got the students and teachers involved in the discussion.

Cathy spoke about the volunteering and how it can help with life, work etc.

Loani talked more about actual process of how FNQ Volunteers’ Referral Officers do interviews, what information is collect. Loani then continued speaking about the various volunteer positions roles that are on offer from FNQVI Members.

Javier presented a short video of how Red Cross started and spoke about the humanitarian side of Red Cross and the community work they do here in Cairns.

Overall the presentation was well received.
